I'm Jane Wolf, a design systems leader who likes untangling complex problems. I lead the design systems and design operations team for Firefox at Mozilla, where we design across desktop and mobile and keep growing our tooling and design ops practice.
I care most about growing teams and people, accessibility, and creating the processes and structure that let designers and engineers do their best work together.
What I've Worked On
At Mozilla, I helped lead Project Nova, Firefox's biggest redesign in years, including the design system behind it and a shared color palette and icon set across iOS, Android, and desktop. Before that, I led a design systems team at Rocket Companies, working to unify design across the Rocket Family of Companies.
I've also spent a lot of my career working with startups. At Sift, I designed the core product, the mobile app, and an enterprise theming system as the company grew. As a freelance designer since 2014, I've helped many startups go from early ideas to shipped products, often as their only designer, like at ExchangeLodge, where I built the design system the team took into code.
Earlier in my career I worked at PTC and SapientRazorfish, and my freelance work has also included clients in healthcare, finance, energy, and technology.
How I Work
- Start from the problem, and design for the complexity that's really there
- Build systems with engineering, not just for it, so the details hold up in code
- Make accessibility part of the foundation, not a final check
- Give teams clear processes, reviews, and documentation so they can move quickly on their own
Design and AI
AI tools and agents are only as good as the systems they build from, so good foundations matter more than ever. I focus on design systems that are ready for them: clear tokens, well-documented components, and a tight connection between design and code, so what gets generated stays accessible and on-brand.
I use AI in my own work too, to prototype faster, explore more directions, draft documentation, and build small tools. It speeds up the work. The judgment about what's right for people still comes from design.
Freelance
Alongside my work at Mozilla, I take on a small number of freelance projects. I'm a good fit if you need:
- A design system started or rebuilt, from foundations and tokens to a component library
- Complex, data-heavy product UI designed so it's easy to scan and act on
- A senior design partner for a small team or a startup without an in-house designer
Outside of Work
When I'm not designing, I'm usually making something by hand, whether that's building a dollhouse or laser cutting a new piece of art. I also like trying out design tools I don't use day to day, catching the latest Marvel show, and, every fall, going apple picking.
